Two T-28s arrived for the last SARL air race of the season, at Taylor, TX. One flown by Joe Dickerson and the other flown by Chip Lamb. This airport is north east of Houston, about an hour's flight directly east of Taylor. Mike and I launched out of Taylor just before dawn and watched the sun rise. We arrived amongst a cloud of other racers in the circuit, all landing in plenty of time for the race briefing.

These are the bubble-canopied helicopters made famous in the series #MASH, way back in the day. There are three of them that fly constantly over Oshkosh during the week, and it's a great way to see the extent and complexity of the huge showground.

On the Sunday before Oshkosh, a brace of flying cars (or roadable airplanes) descended into the 1950's style diner just south of Wittman Regional Airport. He asked if his friend, Major Matt Van der Walle, would give me a tour of his squadron. Maj Van der Walle kindly agreed, and so it was that I found myself heading to San Antonio on the day before the Lackland Airshow. I was visiting 356th Airlift Squadron, part of the 433rd Airlift Wing. Will Hawkins of Wilco Films was also there to video the whole thing.The Texan II is the primary fixed-wing training aircraft of the US Air Force and looks like one heck of a ride.
